PROSPECTIVE LEGISLATION

DAYLIGHT SAVING

MEMBERS’ SALARIES,

GAMI NG A MENDMEN T.

(From Our Parliamentary Special.) WELLINGTON, This Day.

The Prime Minister stated yesterday that it had been decided to introduce a Daylight Saving Bill this session. The Bill would he a Government measure providing for half an hour day light saving on similar lines to the Act which, operated last' summer.

The movement for an increase in members’ salaries has been revived this session and it is understood that representations on the subject have been made to the Government and consideration has been promised. .Some members feel, however, that it is inopportune for them to press for a restoration of the “’cuts” made in members’ salaries before the “cuts” in Civil Servants' salaries have been restored. There are. conflicting opinions ia regard to the prospects of Sir 0. Hunter’s Gaming Amendment Bill passing this, session. The position is being complicated by amendments havingbeen given notice of by other members, notably Mr H. S, B. Kyle, who proposes to legalise card .tournaments, and Mr T. Maldtanara, who suggests the licensing of bookmakers.
