(Sailing fr6m England for Wellington in 1884, John Woodcock, now a sturdy man of 70 failed to reach his destination until six weeks ago, when on his way ihoane to England. * Having landed at Hobart, he missed his ship. He found work in Tasmania, subsequently visiting most parts of Australia and New Zealand, except Wellington. He recently went to, Southampton in the -Gorinthie, aboard which he met a missionary, the Rev. Benton, who persuaded Woodcock to accompany him as engineer on a'voyage to the upper reaches of the Amazon in. a 70feqt motor launch.
