EARTHQUAKE SUFFERERS
“NORTHERN ADVOCATE’’ FUND,
CONTRIBUTIONS INVITED,
The “Northern Advocate” will be glad to receive and ■ acknowledge contributions to a fund for the relief of the sufferers by the earthquake. There is urgent need for assistance, and donations large and small will be welcomed.
The following donations have been received: —

A basket social held at Maungakararaea last evening in aid, of the earthquake relict, funds met with splendid response, a total of approximately, £lls being raised, and it is hoped to consid-erably-augment this sum by contributions from settlers who were not present at the function. A stock drive at the sale/during the afternoon helped to swell the total. Mr T. o’Carroll was in the chair at the social, and Mr W. Jones, Mayor of Whangarei, was also present, making a few appropriate opening remarks. The auctioneer was Mr H. Sloane, assisted by Mr N. Jack } and about 30 baskets were sent, containing a fine selection of cakes and produce. Over 200 persons were present, and in addition to dancing, recitations were given by Mrs S. W. Crawford and Mr R. Hudson.
At the conclusion of the evening *Mr J. Allcock thanked Mr Jones for his presence and also all who had in any way contributed to the successful result achieved.
