RABBIT SKIN SALE

WELLINGTON PRICES

Messrs Dalgety and Company Limit-1 cd report:—We held our fifth sale ofj labbitskins on August 1 when, we -sub- j mitted a very large catalogue of alii grades and descriptions to the usual j attendance of buyers. Our offering comprised some large consignments from tlie Marlborough District. W-ai-raiapn, King Country, Taihape,' and various parts of the North Island. Adverse reports have .just been received from Loudon on. the sales recently held iu that centre, prices showing- a decided drop. This naturally reflected on our sale and we wore compelled to accept a lower range of values. At the present time there are heavy stocks of N.Z. skins awaiting sale in Loudon and shippers have lost considerably on their purchases. Prime skins sold exceptionally well, but the inferior grades were difficult of disposal. Trappers who had consignments iu this sale must feel highly pleased with the prices realised considering.-the depressed state of the London market. The following is tho range of prices:—■

Runners and suckers, 20d to 30d; light racks, 36d to 405 d; prime, 38i. to 4.13 d; summers, 25d to 29]d; dawny autumns, 403 d to 43]d; early autumns, 47]d to 523 d; late autumns, 54d to 00]d; incoming winters, 00d to 79d; early winters, 75d to SOLI; winter spotted, 473 dto 54d; haroskiris, 41d to 433 d;. prime bucks, 90d to 9Sd; prime does, HOd to 11 Id; first bucks, SOd to 90d; first does, 97(1 to 101]d; winters, 55d to So]d; winter blacks, SOd to 90d; winter fawns, 90d to 121 d.

. Opossum skins. —At our sale all grades and colours brought high prices and trappers would he "well advised to send their catches forward.

The market for New Zealand lamb is weak. The demand is poor. Mutton Market.—Pair trade in heavy-weight wethers, but. poor demand for light-weight wethers and 1 ewes. ■Aew Zealand Porker Pigs.—Nominal prices. New Zealand Baeoner Pigs.—Steady prices, with fair demand for all arrivals.

The Bank of New Zealand has received the following- advice from its London office, as at the close of business last week:—

Frozen Meat.—The market is weaker for lighter weight wethers, and is expected to decline. The demand for heavy-weights is good. The ewe market is dull. Tim lamb market is oversupplied, and prices are affected in consequence. There is a fair demand for beef. Wethers, light, sfd to 7d per lb; heavy, 5d to 5:;cl. Ewes, 4M to sld. Lambs, twos, Bld to 9d; fours, 7'}d to Bi|d: eights, 73d to Sd; seconds, B;|d to 83d. Ox hinds, s,|d to 5-ld; ox fores, 3fd to 4d; cow hinds, 43d to sd; cow fores, 3|d to 3§d.
