The pupils of W, McKinnon "at Grocnmeadows have lately been increased by the arrivals of Normandy and Pakitere, both of whom were sired by Arausio out of Hoy and Te Aupaki respectively. Normandy, who was bred and is owned by Mr J. D. Ormond, is a half-brother to Anomaly, Penelophon, •Shirley, Rigolctto, King’s Jest, and Last Mark, Pakitere, a. rising two-year-old half-sister 'to Toxeuma, is the property of Mr Prank Ormond for racing purposes, being held by him under a long lease, as is Toxeuma, from his brother, Mr G. C. Ormond, who bred the pair. She is full of promise and should prove as successful when her time arrives as Toxeuma has been.

■ Grand Aero, a former inmate of G. W. New’s establishment at Awapuni, but now quartered at Biecarton, was given his first race in the south when he ran unplaced at the South Canterbury fixture. Ho carried little support, having injured himself a few days previously, which had prevented his being worked seriously.

The rich prizes offering for hunters' durhlg the next few months have led to a number of prominent jumpers being, qualified. Mention was made recently of the fact .that the Great Northern 'Steeplechase winner, Giendowie, was a qualified hunter, and amongst between GO and 70 horses granted similar certificates by the Mamawatu. Hunt Club are well-known racehorses such as Askari, Blood Red, Galluxia, Frisco Jack, Frizzier, Grand National, Hillation,, Lieutenant Bill, Luarne, Olympic, Bang! Sarto and Sunart. This crowd include a New Zealand and Wanganui Cup winner (Sunart), and a Feilding Cup winner (Askari).

In the South Island some fancy King' Balboa in the Winter Cup, in which he has a handy weight, 9st 101 b. At Timaru just before the Wellington meeting he defeated Black Duke, who subsequently jvycnt on to Trentham and won in good company. Ait Timaru again last week King Balboa, w'on like a good one, and ho will have it on a number of his opponents at the Grand National meeting on the score of fitness.

Craigmore was a good performer over 'hurdles last season. His record at the Gra.nd National meeting in August last was two firsts . and ope second out of throe starts. He notched a win in a minor hurdle event on the second day and finished up ;by defeating Kilburn and Bed Fuchsia in the Sydenham Hurdles on the' 1 last day of the meeting.

Haiti will be ridden in the Winter Cup by H. Goldfinch. Goldfinch has yet to. ride the winner of the event, but he has not been a very frequent Visitor to RAecarton. He was seen to good advantage in the saddle last reason with 46 winnefs, placing him fifth on the winning list.
