BOXING BOUTS
PROVINCIAL CHAMPIONS,
SOME GOOD CONTESTS,

.The semi-finals and' finals of the Auckland Provincial amateur boxing championships brought a capacity house to the Town Hall last evening when some 20 bouts were decided.
The tournament, this,year, has produced a higher average standard than last, and in the middleweight class champion has been unsurpassed for his fighting ability for many years. F. A. Pearcey, flyweight .champion retained his title, as did P. McCarthy, lightweight and heavyweight champion. C. Craig, of To Awamutu, annexed the lightweight honours, the other weights all being won by Aucklanders. The welterweights, Cleverly and Bennett, gave the best display of boxing last evening, but the middleweight division afforded the most spectacular fights. The finals resulted: Flyweight (7.10). —F. A. .Pearcey, 7.5, beat H. Bruno, 7.75. Bantamweight (8.2). —R. Purdy, S.O, beat F. Keenan, 8.1. Featherweight, (9.0). —H. Johns, 8.13, beat C. Mansion, 8.134. Lightweight, (10.0). —C. Craig 9.10 J beat F. Lindsay, 10.0. Welterweight, (10,0). —C. McKnight, H. Neal, 11.4. Light-heavyweight, weight (11.4). —.M. O’Brien, 11. Of, beat H. Neal, .11/4. Light-heavyweigh, (12.0).—P. McCarthy, 11.11 3, beat A. Gifford, 11,11. Heavyweight (over 12.0).—.P. McCarthy, 11.113, heat D. Lindesay, 12.8.
