PRISONERS SENTENCED. (Per Press Association.—Copyright.) HAMILTON, This. Day. At the Supreme Court Sir Alexander Hordman passed sentence of two years’ Borstal- on John Stewart Jeffrey, IS, for indecent assault on a girl of 20, at Frankton. The jury had acquitted Jeffrey on a charge of 'attempted rape and recommended mercy on .account of the oncouragomenf given by the girl. Tito judge agreed that there had been encouragement 'but said it was his duty to protect young girls against men who endeavoured to satisfy their passions in this way. Frederick T. K. May, who is already serving ton years' for rape, was convicted on two charges of forgery and sentenced to two years on each charge, concurrent with the present sentence. William Thomas, a miner, was sentenced to seven years’ hard labour for indecent assault on a small boy at Ngantnwahia.
