LIBERALS’ FOREIGN POLICY.

NINE POINTS COMPRISED. (Australian Press Assn. —United Service.? (Received 1.20 p.m.) LONDON, May 23. The 'nine points of the Liberal Party’s foreign policy are contained in a statement signed by Mr Lloyd George, the Earl of Beauchamp, Sir Herbert .Samuel, Sir Charles Hobhouse and Lady Ackland. The Liberals’ primary object is to abolish war as a method of settling international dispute, also work for an early, large, all-round reduction oi armaments, to sign the optional clause by which justifiable disputes would be referred to the Court of International Justice, with necessary reservations regarding differences between members of the British Commonwealth, and to re-establish as early as possible economic relations with Russia, on the basis of non-in-terference with each other’s domestic affairs.

MeKENNA DUTIES. ♦ SAFEGUARDING ESSENTIAL. (Australian Press Association.) (Received 2 p.m.) 7 LONDON, May 23. ■Sir H. Morris has entered into the McKenna duties controversy with the statement that, in view qf increasingly keen foreign competition, safeguarding is essential to the prosperity of the British motor trade. • It has meant a great increase in employment, also a. substantiial reduction in the prices of British cars. Abolition of the duties would very seriously handicap the industry for the sake of a political fetish. , "Abolition of safeguarding,” ht adds, "means the curbing and retardation of British industry and thousands out of work.”
