MR MICHAEL HAWKINS. (Per Press Association.—Copyright.) AUCKLAND This Day. The death has occurred of Mr Michael Hawkins, a former Controller-Gen-eral of Prisons. Michael Hawkins w T as thorn at, Bangor, County Down, in 3862, and educated at Belfast. He served his time as an apprentice bricklayer and, suhse cjuently worked for two years at Cleveland, Ohio. In ISS4, lie arrived at Lyttelton and the following year W’as appointed assistant-warden at Dunedin, After being stationed for four years at Tiinani he was appointed second principal at Invercargill and in 1903 assumed the post of chief warder. He supervised the building of many bridges by prison labour.
