MORNINGSIDE ROAD
HIGHWAY CONSIDERED DAN-
GEROUS
. STRONG CRITICISM
When the report of the Works Committee was submitted to the Wbangam Borough Council last evening, Cv Brainsby said he was surprised that nothing had been done about Mornings! do Road. The condition of this highway had boon referred to the committee by ihe obi council with an instruction that something should be done immediately. There were a lot of people living on the road who were ratepayers and entitled to consideration.
In moving that the engineer submit a, report, to the next meeting of the council as to what, is best to be done, Or Brainsby said that the road, was in a dangerous and disgraceful condition. There was no footpath, and pedestrians in evading motor traffic were compelled to step into the long grass which flanked the road and, during rainy periods get a bad wetting. The road was badly scoured out and full of potholes.
Cr Jackson, in seconding the motion, said that something should also be done in the construction of a foot-
path to the tennis courts
Cr Tibbits said there was a resolution on the minutes that Morningside Road was to have first call on the
estimates,
Cr Holmes supported Cr Brainsby, He considered it perfectly right that the engineer should submit a report, especially as to what improvement is to be effected at, the junction of the three roads.
Cr Tibbits replied that tlm road would bo provided for on the estimates. There was a proposal being considered for a sub-divisional road on the fiat through. Hoey’s property. The engineer was effecting improvement to the approach to the tennis courts, but nothing of a permanent nature was being effected until the estimates came down.
The motion, on being put to the
meeting, was carried
