TI TREE SCORES IN THE LAST, The Whangarei Racing Club's autumn carnival was concluded at Kensington Park on Saturday in beautiful weather before a very large attendance of the publie. The racing throughout the day was of a very interesting nature and it is a matter for congratulation that the stipendiary steward, Mr Angus Gordon, was not called up to institute any inquiry.

The Whangarei Municipal Silver Band, under Mr A, Dobson L.A.8., L.T.C.L., rendered an attractive programme of music. The Y.M.C.A. Division of the St. John Aurbuiauce was in attendance but the services of its members were, luckily, not requisitioned.

The various officials had all details well in hand and the meeting was run very smoothly, nil events being got off well Jo time. For this desirable state of affairs the club’s president, Mr R. G, Hosking and the secretary, Mr F. L. Gunn, deserve to be heartily eulogised.

The totalisator investments were as follows: First day £14,397 second day £19,627 making a total of £34,024, Compared with those of 1927, £15,338 10s and £20,766 respectively, they show a decrease of £2OBO 10s. The total for the one day fixture in 1928 was £20,335.

There was a very fine contest in the Autumn Handicap, the principal race of the day, Mr A. S. Rklewood’s gelding, Thursby, scoring a ■wellmerited victory by half a head from the favourite Le Choiicas, Palmares finished on nicely from the ruck to get up in time to defeat Bulolo, who got the best of the start, hi the Onerahi Hack. The grey gelding should heard from again in the near future. The sprint event went to Mr E. George’s Melissa 'who returned her supporters a very handy dividend. Tea Time who led practically' all the way could not quite see it out. A very popular victory was recorded -when Ted Plaisted led in his bay mare Royal Seagull at the conclusion of the Ruatangata Handicap. A win for this painstaking mentor is always well received. Envoy finished full of running In the Northern Hack Cup to beat; Gay Cockade by a length. The final event of the meeting provided a good betting race and the investments exceeded the £3OOO mark, being the best recorded during the day. The public went solidly for Ti Tree and their judgment was not astray as the Tea Tray mare never left the issue in doubt and won by a fair margin. The following are the results of the events run after going to press on Saturday;— RUATANGATA HANDICAP. Of 125 sovs. Seven furlongs. 3—E. K. Plaisted’s b.m.
