LABOUR’S POLICY
WORK BEFORE EVERYTHING UNEMPLOYMENT ABOLITION. MR MCDONALD’S STATEMENT. (Australian Press Association.) (Received 12.25 p.m.) LONDON, April 21. Mr Ramsay MacDonald, in the "Daily Herald,” in an article, gives the most comprehensive pronouncement yet made. He declares that Labour is the only party prepared to deal with unemployment courageously. It has a- programme and only needs power. Every party, except Labour, has failed miserably. Labour will put work before everything and asked to be judgea thereon. It would attack the coalfields distress, raise the school-leaving age, pension off old hands to relieve the pressure, give widows pensions and go in for extensive house building and slum clearance. "Labour pursues peace and will stand for arbitration and disarmament and support the League of Nations to the utmost.”
