TWO NEW BATTLESHIPS
AUTHORITY WANTED FROM CONGRESS. THREE SHIPS TO BE' SCRAPPED. (United Service.) (Received 8.30 a.m.) WASHINGTON, April 20. Authority to construct two great battleships of 35,000 tons, to be asked from Congress this year, is announced by Admiral Hughes, Chief of Naval Operations. Those ships will replace the Wyoming, Florida and Utah under the provisions of the Washington Treaty, which provides for the scrapping of these ships at the end of 1033. The new ships will exceed 2:1, knots und have the usual deck armour protection against aircraft bombs.
