MOTORING SIGNALS

We commend to the attention of motorists two diagrams, with explanations, published in another column. The instructions conveyed in this illustrated .article, if observed by every motorist, would do much to make the life of driver and pedestrian happier ami safer. It is pleasing to hear that Wliangarei motorists, as a body, comply generally with the rcgula tious. There are, however, some signals which are not made as regularly as is desirable. These refer to the intention of a motorist to slow down or stop, and a warning that a motorist is about to make a turning to the right. These arc important matters. When traffic is congested, or one car is closely following another, it is very necessary that the driver of the leading c.ai should signal when he intends to slow down or stop. This, as one of the diagrams shows, can bo done in a very simple manner. If is also very necessary that intention to turn to the right should be signalled. This intention, too, as is shown by the second diagram, can be signalled in a simple manner. If those matters are attended to, the risk of inconvenience and accident will be materially reduced. We publish the information at the request of the borough traffic inspector, and we hope that motorists will emulate the immortal Captain Cuttle by making a note of it.
