NORTH AUCKLAND PRESBYTERY

A gathering representative practically -of the whole of the activities of the Presbyterian -Church in the North Auckland peninsula was held in the -Band Boom, Normanby Street, Darg-aville, on Wednesday. The liraj or portion of the -day was occupied by the quarterly meeting of the North . Auckland Presbytery, Rev. T. 11. Burton the Moderator, presiding, while conferences were also - held of representatives of the Women’s Missionary Union and the Sunday School Teachers’ Association. Over fifty delegates from -all parts of the Jforth attended, The main business to which attention was devoted by the Presbytery was that concerning boundaries and! a possibility "of the co-operation of the Methodist Church. Rev. N. 0. White gave a statement of the position and Rev. Geo. Budd gave census figures showing the division of population in North Auckland. '

Rev. Budd urged that the natter be give® very careful treatment and it was eventually aU'apiniQflsly decided that i consideration pf the question be deferred until tfie pext meeting of the Presbytery in view of the »pany ; prob--lems connected with the proposal which made it desirable that the matter should not be decided hurriedly. Owing to the serious illness of the Rey. Gr. W. Loehore, of Whangarei three months’ leave of absence was granted him and much sympathetic expression was made for him in his indisposition. The conference of delegates of the Women’s Missionary Union was presided over by the president, Mrs G. W. Blair, of Waipu. Addresses were given by the president, Miss I. Potter, of Kamo, and Rev. Geo. Budd. upon matters of interest to the union. Miss Potter’s subject had to do with the development of the ‘‘Busy Bee” movement throughout North Auckland. The Movement aims at interesting children from an early age in missionary work. Miss Potter mentioned that the 59 “hives” throughout the Dominion had been the means last year of raising almo*st £IOOO for missionary activities.

Mr Johnson, of Hikurangi, occupied the chair at the Sunday School Teachers’ Conference and ways and means pf furthering this branch of church work were fully discussed.

The importance of (reaching isolated families by correspondence was emphasised and the discussion showed how Sunday school work coukll be furthered to enable its being placed in the position it deserves in the .community.

Owing to the difficulty of gathering delegates together from a scattered distinct this was the first meeting of the association and much useful work I was done.

Appreciation of the activities of Miss Potter, who is retiring from the work was voiced by several speakers and the hope was expressed that some worker would be found to take up the vacancy.
