MESSITER MYSTERY
CORONIAL CRITICISM
POLICE (JOHN'SEE OBJECTS.
(Australian Press Association.) Received 9 turn.) LONDON, March 16.
Tiie jury, at Hie inquest concerning the death of Mr V. H. Messdter, -whose body -was found in a garage at 'Southampton, returned a verdict of murder against some person or persons unknown.
The coroner, in summing up, said the statement of one witness, named Podmoro, was a mass of inconsistencies as to dates and circumstances. The jury must use their discretion in regard to what credence they placed on the alleged conversations between Podmoro and another prisoner. The coroner proceeded to say it was an unhappy circumstance that the authorities had not prosecuted anyone in connection with the murder in order to stop the verdict at the inquest. Counsel for the police objected to the statement, saying ho desired to protest against the coroner’s observations. The statement of the coroner was forthwith communicated to the Director of Public Prosecutions.
