WASHINGTON, January 22

The Senate adopted the Harris amendment to the Jirst deficiency appropriation bill giving an additional 25,000,000 dollars for prohibition enforcement, out-riding Mr Andrew Mellon ; s protest that the sum was above the 13,000,000 dollars previously appropriated. ■ The Senate then adapted an amendment giving Mr Hoover 250,000 dollars for investigation into prohibition enforcement.

Both measures must now be passed by the House of Representatives.

The following was cabled on the 11th inst. f ‘ The Senate Appropriation 'Committee has approved of an increase of 25,000,000 dollars in the fund for Prohibition enforcement, the increase to become immediately available. The Prohibition Bureau must be approved by the House and iSenate Committee which has asked the Bureau for a statement showing how the increase would "be spent. * 1
