WELLINGTON, This Day,

A large gathering of officers of tire Bank of New Zealand from all parts of the Dominion, assembled in the board room yesterday when Mr Henry Buckleton, general manager, who had attained 1 his 50th year of service with the bank on Saturday, w r as presented with his portrait, in oils, painted by Mr A. Nieoll, and a pearl tie-pin. Mrs Buckleton, who was present, was presented with a toilet set and brushes in enamel. Testimony was borne to Mr Buckleton's ability and high sense of duty. A replica of the portrait is to hang in the board, room.

In the course of his reply, Mr Buckleton said the board and executive were only 100 glad to give officers every opportunity of qualifying for high positions. He -stressed the importance of technical training for bank officers.
