QUIXOTIC BRIDE,
CAPTAIN COLD-SHOULDERED,
(Australian Press Association.) (Received 11.17 a.m.) .LONDON, December 19. There w r as a flutter in- society - circles at the Savoy Church when the fact was made known 'that a New Zealand bride, Miss Huia Sargood, instead <of marrying the announced fiance, Captain YalV Pope, >of the Royal Artillery, -who took out a license a fortnight ago, wai married today to a New Zealander, Lieutenant lan Lawrence Mackillop, of tha Royal Engineers* 1
When interviewed, the bride said: “The other one is off. I am marrying Lieutenant Mackillop, ’ ’ who interposed : “The other ' announcement was incorrect. ”
It is understood that Captain Pope told the church authorities as late as Saturday that everything was in order, but on Monday Miss Sargood told them that she* was marrying Lieutenant Mackillop.
She was informed that, under the circumstances, the old license was invalid, so she paid £2 14s for a shortnotice special license. She is a grand-daughter of the late Sir Frederick 'Sargood.
