CROSSING CRASH
LORRY SMASHED AT KAIKOHE. DRIVER -SLIGHTLY HURT, (Special to “Northern Advocate.”) KAIKOHE, This Day. A railway crossing accident occurred at 8.30 o’clock- this morning at the crossing near the entrance to the Kaikohe Railway Station yard, when a motor lorry owned' and driven by Mr Norman Hooker collided with the . < south-bound train, resulting in the complete destruction of the lorry. The driver, luckily, escaped, with a few minor injuries -as l well as general -shock.
The lorry was leaving the station yard for the town, when the accident occurred, the engine striking thq lorry in the centre of the body, smashing iit to / pieces ' and ’ throwing the driver clear of the train, ' which pulled up within 20 feet. The train was travelling at a slow rate of speed, prior to pulling up at -the platform, and did not leave the rails.
Mr Hooker was taken to the town for first aid attention by Mr Williamson, a chemist, who put some stitches in the slight cuts on his head.
Mr Hooker states ho never saw or heard the train, which is unaccountable, as there are no obstructions to
obscure the view.
