AIR CONFERENCE
MANUFACTURE STANDARDS.
INTERNATIONAL CODE,
(Australian Press Association.) (Received 10 a.m.)
WASHINGTON, December 15,
The Canadian Deputy Minister of National Defence, Mr des Batata, presented an appeal to the Aeronautical Conference at the final plenary session today for the establishment of an international code of standards governing airplane manufacture,, and certificates of airworthiness, which would include the United States as well as European countries. No official action was taken by the meeting, but it is considered probable that there will be further informal discussions before the aviation experts here depart for home. The United States failure to ratify the Convention of 1919 is believed here to- hinder the development and export of American airplane equipment, and the recent Australian proclamation on this matter seemed to bo an instance in point.
Mr des Barats explained that. Canada has a working agreement with the United States under which Canada imports aviation equipment, 'despite the fact that Canada is a signatory to the Convention of 1919. Mr t des Barats added: “I -suggest to members of the -conference that they urge upon their respective governments the necessity of a unified code.”
The delegates depart tomorrow for Kitty hawk, North 'Carolina, for the unveiling of a statue in connection with the Wright celebration.
