JACKSON IN SYDNEY.

GREAT CONTEST EXPECTED

(Per Press Association. —Copyright.) WANGAN.UI,. This Day. i Inf ormation is to hand- Sydney that the champion sculler, A. 1C Jackson, and W. Webb were given a warm welcome on arrival there on Tuesday. Jackson’s boat arrived safely. Webb lost little, time ' getting ; afloat on the Parramatta.' Since then Jackson has been out daily and is going along well. Webb’s first duty was to show Jackson over the course and teach him his bearings. Jackson soon picked these up, and should'-row in good style next Saturday, when he will compete against the Olympic champion, H. R. Pearce, in the sculling champions’ race at the New ..South Wales Association’s regatta. Pearce is claimed by AusP \ tralians to be one of the best scullers ever seen on the Parramatta, on which river all the most famous oarsmen in history have rowed. Webb has seen Pearce rowing and has been much impressed by his style and'speed. At the same time he expects Jackson to. prove a worthy opponent, and predic/s a great race next Saturday.

It is rumoured that Pearce, the Australian sculler and Olympic single sculls champion, may turn professional after next, Saturday’s amateur championship. It is understood that he has received an offer to race Burns, holder of the Australian professional championship, for-a purse of £SOO and the right to challenge Bert Barry for. the world’s title bn the Thames.
