THE NEW GOVERNMENT
The short session of Parliament has ended and the people's representatives have returned to their homes. The new Government has received a gratifying welcome from the country as a whole. It is generally recognised that the Prime Minister has made a good selection from the members of his party. Though only three Ministers have had Cabinet experience, the untried men, for the most part, have proved themselves successful in the commercial world and in various branches of public life. This, after all, is the real test,# for though it sometimes happens that born legislators are failures in the conduct of their private affairs, the men to whom the country should look for counsel and assistance are those who have made a success of their own business concerns. The new Cabinet should, therefore, prove a good working team. Ministers will have some six months in which to make themselves personally acquainted with the needs of the country and to prepare a programme for presentation to Parliament. There is every reason to believe that the Dominion is entering another era : of fat and, as all parties in Parliament have evinced a commendable desire to co-operate in efforts which may be expected to further the interests of the country, there need be no fear that a satisfactory state of affairs will not be recorded when Parliament meets. It is to bo hoped that nothing untoward will hamper the Prime Minister and his Cabinet in the work they have undertaken. They are actuated by a sincere desire to further the interests of the country, and they should be given every opportunity to carry out the groundwork upon which they must bo engaged during the next few months.
