FIRST CRICKET TEST
TENNYSON SELECTIONS,
ALTERNATIVE ENGLISH TEAMS,
(Australian Press Association.) (Received 2.30 p.m.)
LONDON, November 28
Commenting on the first cricket test match, which opens at Brisbane on Friday, the Hon. Lionel Tennyson, writing in the “Daily Chronicle," says that Australia has an enormously powerful hatting side, but the bowling is insufficient to turn the scale in Australia’s favour.
He selects two teams, the first, if the wicket is hard and fast, in the following batting order. —Hobbs, Sutcliffe, Jardine, Hammond, Hendren, Chapman, Leyland, Ames, Tate, Larwood and Freeman. It • seems extraordinary, he says, to leave Geary out, but four fast bowlers are unnecessary. If Hammond is unable play Geary is the obvious man to take his place. He selects Leyland because he is a magnificent outfield. If the wicket is really sticky the batting order will be, —Hobbs, vSutcliffe, Tyldesley, Mead, Hammond, Hendren, Chapman, Ames, Tate, White: and Freeman.
