CRICKET TOURS
NORTH AUCKLAND TEAM. ATTRACTIVE PROGRAMME. Much that .should advance the standard of cricket in the area from the W'aitemata to North Cape, was done at tin* annual meeting of the North Auckland Cricket Association, held in Whangarei on 'Saturday evening. An apology for absence was received from the president, Mr E. J. Dargaville, Mr L. Matthews (Alan gonui) was voted to the chair, and presided over a good attendance of delegates from all affiliated associations. A cash statement supplied by Air F. Lees, retiring treasurer, showed a credit balance of £5 2,5.
The election of officers resulted; Patron, Air A. J. Alurdochy ALP.; president, Mr F. J. Dargaville (re-elected); vice-presidents, Messrs E. ‘Vi pond (Kodney), H. H. Thompson (AfangO' nui), H. Flewollyn (Whangarei) and £. E. Rope (Northern Wairoa); secretary, Air E. E. Danes. Mr W. R. Dunning was appointed sole selector for representative teams.
It was decided to seek affiliation with the Auckland Association. An invitation will bo extended for an Auckland representative team to tour Rodney, Dargaville, AEangonui and Whangarei for a week's cricket between' December 27 and January (i. Enquiries will bo made as to whether North Auckland will bo enabled to challenge for the Hawke Cup this souson.
Endeavours will bo made to arrange a tom- for a, North Auckland rep. team through the Waikato and Thames, finishing at Auckland at Easter. It will be remembered that a condition of competition for the DargavilE Shield is that it must, be drawn for after being held by one association for tw-o consecutive seasons. Rodney having been in possession of the shield for the past two seasons, a draw took place, resulting in Northern Wairoa now being the defenders. 'Mangonui have already issued a challenge for the third or fourth week in January. It was resolved unanimously that two days &ould bo allotted to shield jnatchos, the first innings to decide if incompleted. Fourteen clear days’ notice of challenge must be given. The next annual meeting will be hold at AVhangarei on November (i, 1929.
