COAL FROM PETROLEUM
NEW PROCESS DISCOVERED. (United Service.) (Received 1.22 p.m.) PITTSBURG-, November 23. A process which converts petroleum into coal, is announced by the International Conference on bituminous coal. In the new process Dr Walter Rittniau uses waste petroleum, after all gasoline obtainable by cracking has been extracted by heating, and running the waste through pipe coils several, thousand feet long, each containing 400 tons. The waste is charged through vapour into 300 tons of oil, recovered for the manufacture of gasoline, and into 100 tons of coal. The coal runs in liquid form and hardens.
