THE PORTLAND SHOW
ENTRIES CLOSING SOON.
That Portland is a progressive township is evidenced by the splendid schedule which has been issued for the Horticultural and Industrial Show, which takes place on Thursday, 6th December, in the spacious Portland Hall. The schedule comprises the following sections: Vegetables, pot plants, roses, sweet peas, out flowers, decorative, cookery, needlework, photography and school work; while the special prize list is worthy of a .much older established society. There is a handsome rose bowl and trophy for the most points in the show; miniature silver cup for most points in vegetables; as well .as handsome trophies for points prizes in the other sections; besides these there are several special prizes in different sections. The judges selected are well known throughout the North, and this should give exhibitors .encouragement to make large entries. Entries for all sections, excepting flowers, close with the secretary, Mr E. Hay, Portland, on Friday next, 30th November. Flower exhibits can be made up to 5 p.m. on Monday, 3rd December, Schedules are obtainable from the Secretary, Whangarci A, and P. Association; Messrs A. Yates and Co., Ltd., or Mr E.' Hay, Portland. Exhibits can be sent by rail if necessary, and will be collected and staged by the society, i All exhibits fohvnrded by rail or post 1 must arrive at Portland by 0.30 a.in. on Show Day. Exhibits in the photo l graphic section must reach the secretary by Friday, 30th November.
The entries for the iniftial show were 815, which increased Inst year to 800, ami readers are urged to give this young society all possible support in their third effort, and give them .a bumper entry pf over the 1000 mark. 550
