TORY REVOLT
COMMONS COMMOTION OBJECTIONABLE DEATH LEVY. SINGLE PARTY DIVISION. (Australian Press Assn.—United Service.) (RoeeiA'od 9 a.m.) LONDON, July 4. The finance debate in ihe House of Commons created an exciting situation and' the most formidable revolt of Conservatives during the present Parliament. Sir H. C. Buckingham (Conservative, Guildford) moved to delete the provision that the estate of a deceased super-taxpayer should bo charged for the last full year of his life, contending that this would entail payment of double tax for the year and the Treasury would unjustly gain £1,000,000 a year. Sir Robert Horne, Sir J. A. Marriott and Colonel Gretton (all Conservatives) joined in the protest. Tho Labourites did not participate, but interrupted and jeered at the pleas for super-taxpayers. Sir H, C. Buckingham pressed his motion to a division, but it was defeated by 200 votes to 59, the Labourites and Liberals refraining from voting.
