COTTON TRADE CRISIS

NO STRIKE OR LOCK-OUT.

MASTERS’ BALLOT NEGATION.

(Australian Press Association.) (Received 8.28 a.m.) LONDON, May 22

The ballot of members of the Federation of Master Cotton Spinners’ Associations, on the question of onforcing a reduction of wages by 12£ per cent., by lock-out if necessary, failed to give the requisite majority of 80 per cent. The Federation therefore decided to take no further action.

There is keenest satisfaction among the 500,000 cotton operatives in Lancashire, as the ballot issue means that a strike against reduction of ; wages on one hand and a lock-out on the other have both been obviated.
