POORER CATTLE PENNED

A somewhat smaller yarding of cattle than usual was offered at the weekly sale of fat stock at Westlield yesterday, and the quality generally was poorer than last week. Heavy cattle Were inclined to ease in price, but extra choice ox beef continued to make up to 37s per 1001 b. Values remained firm for light-weight beasts.
Sheep were penned in large numbers and sold under steady competition, at prices on a level with last week’s values;, although in the case of wethers the previous week’s maximum quotations were not reached.
Lambs came forward in fairly large numbers, sold under very keen competition and in some cases last week’s values wore improved upon, although the previous ’week’s maximum range was not equalled.
Calves, ,which were offered in average numbers, continued to make high prices, and good runners made up to £(1 12s and vealers realised up to £5 3s. Pat pigs were penned in only moderate numbers. Heavy porkers continued to sell at late rates, but baconers were not in such keen demand.
The following prices were realised (last week’s being bracketed): — Beef (per 1001 b). —Extra choice ox 37/ (37/); choice and prime ox. 32/ to 36/ (34/ to 36/); cow and heifer, 25/ to 30/ (26/ to 30/). Sheep (per head). —Prime wethers, 29/6 to 40/ (29/9 to 44/); unfinished wethers, 29/ to 32/9 (27/6 to 31/6); prime ewes, 23/ to 35/9 (25/ to 35/9); unfinished owes, 15/ to 24/9 (23/ to 26/9); prime lambs, 21/ to 31/3 (21/ to 35/). Calves (per head). —Runners, 80/ to 132/ (69/ to 123/); vealers, 33/ to 103/ (32/ to 109/). Pigs (per head). —Baconers, 63/ to 94/ (66/ to 98/); porkers, 33/ to 84/ (40/ to 86/); weaners, 3/ to 12/ (6/ to 15/); slips, 9/ to 18/ (12/ to 20/); large stores, 21/ to 25/ (20/ to 30/),
SALE OF JERSEY HEIFERS
GOOD DEMAND. The North Auckland Farmers’ Coop., Ltd,, report a very successful sale of Jersey heifers on account of Messrs .Coxhead and Bell, of Kauri. The heifers were all in excellent condition and having been carefully selected by the vendors, in the first place, gave purchasers an opportunity not often to be had in Northern yards. Buyers from various districts were operating and the demand was fully maintained throughout the sale; only 34 of the total offering of 200 being passed. The first draft of 31, bred by Mr Snell, of Ngunguru, averaged £lO 3/. Prices for forward heifers ranged, from £ll 10/ to £l6, ■backward, £7 10/ to £8 10/; other lines, good sorts, £9 to £ll 15/; backward, £6 10/ to £B.
