HYDE DEPORTATION

OFFICIAL EXPLANATION

(United Service.) (Received 8.52 a.m.) VANCOUVER, May 21

Mr A. E, Skinner, Immigration Commissioner here, stated that Hyde was deported at his own request. Every possible aid was - given him as he had no money and was desirous of getting to New Zealand where his only relatives resided. Had he remained in Canada he would have become a public charge. The deportation order enabled him to get transportation home free and every kindness was extended to him. He was sent to the ship oh a, water bed, loaned by the hospital, and the bed was taken aboard for his use until he arrived at his destination. He was taken under the care of the ship’s physician and given special attenttion by him.

The accident, whicli resulted so seriously to Hyde, occurred about a month after he arrived from New Zealand.

The following message was received on Saturday: —Francis Raymond Hyde, a young New Zealander, who left his native laud a year ago to seek his fortune in Canada, is a passenger by the Aorangi, which is due here on Sunday. He was employed on the farm of a wealthy man and met with an accident. He was admitted to a Canadian hospital with a broken back. The Canadian Government officials decided to send him back to New Zealand by the first available steamer. The Now Zealand Immigration Department informed Hyde’s friends that the matter does not concern them in any way. Arrangements have been made to have the injured man landed and conveyed to the Auckland hospital.
