MOTORISTS’ LICENSES

WELLINGTON, This Day.
Mr E. Page, S.M., today convicted several defendants and ordered them to pay costs for driving unlicensed cars, or without a driver’s license. He said that the decision of Air .1. 11. I,u.xford. S.M., Hamilton, Avas not the subject of appeal. Mr Luxford had dismissed cases under the Justices of the Peace Act and, under the section in question, the decision A\as not subject to appeal.
Mr Page said it av.’is clear from the Statute that a license A\ r as annual. The Act specifically said that a license is to be applied for and issued annually. There was no power to grant them for a longer period. The contention for the defence conflicted Avith both the spirit and letter of the Statute. —Press Assn.
