GRUESOME DISCOVERY

CORPSE IN WHANGAREI RIVER

Shortly after two o’clock this afternoon, the body of a man, Walter Hatton, aged about 70 years, was discovered by Constables Norris and Beasley in the river mud some distance below the Town Wharf. The remains have been conveyed to the morgue.

The deceased had been missing since Sunday night from Glucina’s boarding house, Upper Bank Street, where nc had been residing. After tea on Sunday he went for a customary walk, but on Monday morning it was found that he had not occupied his bed.
