GRAFT INDICTMENT
IMMIGRATION PERMITS.
COMPLETE REFUTATION,

Mr W. J. Egan, Minister of Immigration, appearing before the inquiry commission, refuted the graft charges in connection with immigration J>ermits. He stated that of 30til permits issued 2000 were sponsored by members of Parliament. None did so for gain, and not one officer in the depart-
ment received one cent. The department had discovered attempts to use bogus permits, and not one had passed the officers. The matter had been placed in the hands of the mounted police and one man had been apprehended. Witness had received complaints in two instances where money had been taken for permits.
