WHANGAREI MUNICIPAL CHOIR

FIRST ANNUAL MEETING

A large number of members and their friends attended the first annual meeting of the Whangarei Municipal Choir, which was held in the Parochial Hall last evening.

Mr P. Cutforth, the president, occupied the chair, and in his report spoke of the w’ork of the choir during its first season. He felt there was every reason for congratulation, as both 1 concerts were of a high order and were attended by a fair number on each occasion. He hoped even greater support would be given the Choir next season.

Mr Dobson, the conductor, had given the choir the benefit of his extensive experience, and had worked conscientiously and well to bring the best out of the members.

The membership stood at 73 and the average attendance at rehearsals was 54, which indicated that the members were giving their support very loyally.

The financial state of the Choir was quite satisfactory and a small credit balance was shown. This had been increased that day and with the asset of music available for the choir was sufficient to wipe out the small debts outstanding.

He thanked all the members of the Committee for the splendid help given during his term of office and expressed the hope that the choir would go steadily forward in the future. 'The secretary was then called upon to read the balance-sheet, which, with the President’s report was passed with acclamation. The election of officers for the ensuing year was then proceeded with, and resulted as follows: —

Patron, His Worship the Mayor; president, Mr F. Cutforth; vice-presi-dents, Mr A. Marsdeu Woods, Mr D. Meikle; committee, Mesdames F. Horne, A, M. Woods, Messrs Crawford Bell, and A. Marsden Woods; registrar, Mr A. T. Smith; librarian, Mr J. Turner; treasurer, Mr W. Calder; secretary, Mr F. C. Baines; conductor, Mr A. Dobson, subject to his being able to take the appointment; Deputy conductor, Mr A, Marsden Woods; hon. pianist, Mrs Isherwood; hon. deputy pianist, Miss V. Eecles.

It was decided to start the rehearsals directly after Easter. Honorary members will be solicited for at a sub of 10/G per annum, such being entitled to two tickets for each concert £iven.

After the business had terminated the evening was devoted to songs, dances and cards, which with a good supper combined to make a very enjoyable and successful evening.
