INFLAMMABLE STOCK. .CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. Fire last evening ' completely gutted the warehouse of .Messrs Aitchisou, Steams and Company, Ltd., in Lichfield Street, causing very oxtensiA’e damage. The outbreak was discovered shortly after half past ten o’clock, by which time it had obtained a firm hold of the middle of the building. The firemen had a very strenuous battle Avith the flames before rthe outbreak Avas brought under control. The stock, which comprised fancy goods of a highly inflammable nature, provided fierce fuel for the blaze., FireAvorks exploded and add--ed to the din. No estimate of the damage lias as* yet been given, but it Avas " very considerable and is largely in excess of the insurance. The managing ‘director of the firm stated that the insurances on the stock amounted to approximately £20,doO, and on the building to about £SOOO.—'Press Assn.
