ANONYMOUS FUNDS
TO KEEP MINE WORKING. INDIGNANT DIRECTORS. (Received 9 a.m.) SYDNEY, This Day. Mr Sims, chairman of directors of the Stockton Borehole Company, referring to the statement of Mr Hoare as to the receipt of anonymous funds to keep the mine working, said he was astonished beyond words. He added that his company would never countenance such a thing, and it had never been before the board. His opinion was that there would be no advantage from such payments. The colliery was kept going entirely for the benefit of the men. The shareholders had been paid only two dividends since the inception of the company in 1909.
Mr Willis, Legislative Councillor, wl.'o for 15 years w r as associated with toal miners’ organisations, said he had never known anyone on the owners’ side to make a suggestion which could have been regarded as corrupt. —A. and N.Z.
EXPLANATION DEMANDED
(Received 11.30 a.m.) SYDNEY, This Day.
The Central Council of the Mines Federation has summoned Mr Hoarc to attend and give a full explanation of his statements that h'e had received bribes. Members of the Council will insist on the matter being cleared up, and ask for proof of the statements. It is also expected that Mr Hoare will be asked for the names of other persons who are alleged to have received still larger amounts. —A, and N.Z.
