LYING IN STATE

MULTITUDE OF MOURNERS

PASS EARL HAIG’S COFFIN.

NEWS IMPARTED TO SON.

(United Press Assq.—Copyright.) (Received 9 a.m.) LONDON, February G. There were pulpit tributes to Earl Haig throughout the country yesterday. People all day were passing the coffin as it lay in St. Giles’ Cathedral, Edinburgh, at the rate of 2000 an hour. The services were curtailed and the cathedral kept open until ten o’clock in the evening to enable the great crowd to pass. Lady Haig was only able yesterday to break the news of the father’s death to their son, who has been ill, suffering from appendicitis.—A, and N.Z.
