Addressing a meeting of miners of the Stockton Borehole colliery end pressmen whom he invited to bo present, Mr Hoare, president of the northern branch of the Coal Miners’ Federation, stated that he received during the past 18 months amounts totalling £597 as payment for keeping the mine working. Mr Hoare said that the money was paid to him at the rate of one halfpenny per ton on the output by a man whom ho mot in the street in Newcastle. The man refused to divulge his name. When Mr Hoar,e said that ho felt guilty in taking the money, the man said he was getting a more fleabite to what others were getting.
Mr Hoare said h,e had not had to raise a hand to keep the collieries working. The money would bo distributed among the wives and families of members of the Stockton Borehole Lodge.—A. and N.Z.
