BRISK COMPETITION.

Messrs Dalgety and Co., Ltd., have received the following cablegram from their London house, dated February 1; The wool sales closed firm and active, with brisk competition. The selection was good; especially for merinos, compared with the closing rates of last series. New Zealand greasy merinos, none offered; scoured merinos, par to IJd higher; greasy crossbred, fine, lid to 2Jd higher; greasy halfbred, 2d to 23d higher; greasy crossbred, medium and coarse, lid to 2d higher; scoured crossbred, IJd to 3d higher; slipe, Id to 2d higher; Japibs, lid to 2d higher. Of the 109,500 bales. offered the Continent have bought 54,500 bales; Home trade, 38,000 bales; America, 2500 bales; and carried forward, 13,000, of which 1800 bales were not offered. The total sold was 92,500 bales. The following is the range of prices realised: ■ Halfbred, 56's to 58's, good to super, 28d to 30d. Halfbred, 56's to 58’s, low to medium, 23d to 27d. italfbred, 50’s to 56’s, good to super, 251 d to 271 d; low to medium, 21d to S4ld, Fine crossbred, 48 's to 50 %■ good to super, 22d to 25d; low to medium, 18d to 21d. Fine crossbred, 46’s to 48's, good to super, 20 Jd to 23d; low to medium, 17d to 20d. Crossbred, 44’s to 46’s, good to super, 19d to 21cl; low to medium, 16d to 13Jd. i Crossbred, 40’s to 44% good to super, 171 d to 19-J; low to medium, 15d to 17d. Coarse crossbred, 36's to 40% good to supier, 17d to 18d; low to medium, 141d.t0 16id.
