3 STARTLING STATEMENTS. fc INFER NEGLIGENCE. 1 WHAT POST-MORTEM REVEALED t CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. i An inquest is being held today into r the death of Bruce Kellar, aged 10 s years, who died after an operation in hospital for a cut on the face, fol- ■ lowing a motor accident. The mother gave evidence that when told of the boy’s death she asked the doctor: “Did his heart give out?" and the doctor replied: “No." Her husband said “Did you give him the anaesthetic too quickly?" • and the doctor replied; “We may have done." Her husband then asid: “You killed him then" and a hospital sister, who was with the doctor, exclaimed: “Oh!" don't say that." Dr. Crooke, who conducted the post-mortem said that death was due to asphyxiation arising from inspiration of vomited foodstuffs. The coroner: “Do you know if any precautions are taken before giving an anaesthetic to see that the patient has had no recent food? —“Except in a case of extreme urgency it is usual to aftdw from 3i to four hours."
The ease is proceeding.
