(Received 1 p.m.) LONDON, November 9.

Replying to questions in the House of Commons, , the First Lord of the Admiralty, Mr W. C. Bridgeman, stated that the following were being constructed —One • battleship, twelve cruisers, four river gunboats, six submarines, two mine-sweepers, one submarine depot ship ■ and one repair ship. The . following had been completed during the past year—One battleship, two destroyers, one minelayer and one submarine. Sir Samuel Hoare, Secretary for Air said that Air Force fatalities from January .1 to November ! were 35, compared with 46 for the similar period last year. Public inquiries into the causes of accidents would not serve any useful purpose. The Government estimated- that to September 30 the cost of sending troops to China was £2,900,000, including the cost prior to March 31. Mr A. M. Samuel, Financial Secretary to the Treasury, said that to grant peiisions at 30/ weekly to all citizens of 65 years and upwards would cost £240,000,000 yearly, rising to £400,000,000 in 1936,—A. and N.Z.
