RAILWAY BLOCKAGE
TRAINS DELAYED. ; .. (.Special to “Northern Advocate. ’’) AUCKLAND, This Day. Ah engine, proceeding from the sheds at Auckland to bank a race train for Frankton at 7.20 o'clock this morning, ran through a trap at rne points and the tender was derailed. The blockage hampered movements in the railway yard, with the result that the departures of the Waikato race trains were delayed for half an hour, /while the Whangarei express did not get away until 9.8 a.m. intoad of 5.40 a.m.
MAKARTRI FLOODED. . • DEVASTATION, FEARED;.,. .CHRISTCHURCH:, Tills,' Day. Torrential rain from Bealey to Springfield last night and this morning has brought the Waimakariri into high flood. The swollen waters, believed to be as great as the devastating flood of last November, are expected bi reach Coutts Island at about six o’clock tonight. Snow lying, deep on the mountains near the Otira Gorge is melting fast under the rain. Stock is being shifted to safety in anticipation of the flood working havoc.-—Press Assn.
