SLAUGHTER OF INNOCENTS ON SLENDER PRETEXTS. BRITISH MISSION CHAMPIONED, (United Press Assn. —Copyright.) ('Rc-cci v-'d 9 a.m.) LONDON, October 29. Mr Edward Charnock, who was secretary to the British Mission in Russia, amplifying his denial of the Soviet charge that he recruited spies on behalf of Britain, make., the following statement: “Almost at the moment the British Mission left, wholesale arrests of innocent Russians began. Felin, whoso wife was a dancing instructress and a friend of mv niece, was arrested and shot. Scores of alleged White Guards wore rounded up and executed. The Russian authorities are now apprehending every man, woman and child I came in contact with during 27 years. “The process is simple. A family is arrested, the members interrogated individually and asked in whoso house thev met me. This moans the arrest of the other family. If guests are mentioned, they are also arrested. “The two Probe brothers were personal friends of myself and my w r ife for many years, but it ts sheer nonsense to say that our association was for the purpose of espionage.”—A. and N.Z.
