Mrs Beveridge gave a farewell evening on Saturday to Mr Allen Atwho has resigned from the Bank, of New Zealand and is leaving early to proceed to the Malay States, where he has secured a good position. »'* * # Mrs Robert Reyburn,’ of Sydney, and her daughter, Mrs Phil. Connell, left by Thursday’s- express in order to sail, for Australia on the Ulimaroa, leaving Ouekhvnd on. Friday. * * * • Mr and Mrs P. H. Levien are also sailing .by the Ulimaroa on a six weeks’ visit to Sydney. • • « ■ Mrs. McCormick, who has been the guest of Mrs Feat, Kamo, left on Thursday for her home at Bulls. * * » * The Women’s Club Literary Circle met on Monday and enjoyed a Shakespeare evening given by Mrs Harmon Smith. • • • » Mrs Orr, of Onerahi, was a bridge hostess on Thursday afternoon. « • « • Mrs Carson, of Auckland, is visiting her daughter, Mrs Frank Farmer, Manse Street. • • • • On Thursday afternoon Mrs J. A dainty afternoon tea was served at a beautifully decorated table, the flowers being ' daffodils, violets and freesias. Twelve tables were engaged in bridge, the prize-winners being Mesdames Benjamin, Boult and Brainsby and Miss Finch, * • * * On Wednesday evening Mrs (Dr) Hall entertained five tables of bridge at her residence, Maunu Road, the prizes going to Mrs Ward and Mrs Wolff. * V m « The Whangarei friends 'of the Rev, and Mrs W. Gray Dixon will be interested to learn that they arrived safely in England. They travelled by way of Australia and South Africa and intend returning by the Rerauera in September. * * * * A very happy time was spent by a company of about 30 young people who attended a. party given by the Misses Doris, Grace and Rose Walker at their residence, Mill Road, on Wednesday evening. Dancing, games and music passed the time in, gay fashion, and carnival hats and dainty decorations created an attractive ensemble. A sumptuous supper was partaken off, and midnight was long past ’ere the function broke up. • * * • On Thursday evening Mr and Mrs Myles Young, of Kiripaka, gav* a most enjoyable farewell evening to Miss Iris Wilde. The function was held in the Friendly Societies’ Hall, music for the dancing being provided by Mrs McLennan.
