WHERE EVERY PROSPECT PLEASES

BENEFIT TO AUCKLAND PROVINCE.

INCREASED WOOL PRICES,

(Special to ‘'‘Northern Advocate,”) AUCKLAND, This Day.

Even without taking into account .the record dairy produce output of the province and the firming of New Zealand butter prices in the past week, Auckland farmers have reason to be pleased with the recent developments in the overseas market.

On a moderate estimate the rise in cross-breds at the London wool sales, now in progress, means over £IOO,OOO on the Auckland clip. The prices now being realised for this class of woo! are about equal to the best realised at last season’s New Zealand, sales. As is well known, values showed a steady improvement until the last of the sales, which were rather disappointing. The recovery is equivalent to Id to Hd a lb. on medium and coarse greasy cross-breds, which make up the bulk of the Auckland wool, and Id to Id on fine.

This is most gratifying, because the best of the clip was kicked out at the New Zealand sales ami the cable messages, a week before the London sales opened, said that much of the New Zealand wool was not attractive. Moreover, out of the IV!,GOO bales available, New Zealand contributed 5.1,(500, Australia had 2.1,000, (South America. 17,000 ami South Africa 2000. The better prices will benefit very many farmers in the province, which leads the Dominion in the number of its sheepowners. A large proportion of these arc men. who keep a hundred or two of owes, rear fat lambs and make what they can from wool. In the past few years Auckland flocks have shown steady improvement, and North Island lamb, of late, has been fetching only rjd to -?d loss than Canterbury.

Prices of cattle and sheep for local consumption have hardened considerably in the past ten days and there is considerable improvement in inquiry for, and values of, all store sheep.
