DAIRY RESEARCH
WORKING BASIS. REACHED BY CONFERENCE. WELLINGTON, This Day. At the conference, at which the Premier and representatives of the Dairy Board, Department of Agriculture, Agricultural College Council and Research Council were present, it was resolved that dairy research should be carried out apart from the day to day tests required by the Department of Agriculture and Trade laboratories. A special committee will manage the dairy research laboratories, and consider details necessary to the conducting of research, the Research Council appointing the staff. The dairy factory, however, will be controlled by the Agricultural College, but officers .engaged in research and officers of the Department of Agriculture shall have the right of access for experimental purposes. The suggested staff for the laboratory will be a director, bacteriologist and assistant, chemist and assistant, and a factory staff. The capital cost of the laboratory, as part of the college buildings, is £2500. Salaries and apparatus are put down at £5400. The Dairy Board will contribute one-half of the total funds required for dairy research, the Research Council, or its management committee, wdll arrange for adequate co-operation with district laboratories. —Press Assn.
