Mr A. M. 11.-!!, Secretary for Educa cation, has bevn appointed Assistant Dim-tor of Education.—Press Assn,

Brigadier sharp, of the National Headquarters of tae Salvation Army, Wellington, arrived in Whangarei by the Claymore today. He is conducting an appeal for funds for the general work of the Army.

After meeting some deputations at Dargaville this morning, including on© asking for a further permit for the Dargaville Racing Club, the Prime Minister, accompanied by Mrs Coates, returned to Matakohe this afternoon.

Mr A. E. Davey, organiser for the Political Eefonn League, paid a flying visit to Whangarei yesterday afternoon and returned to Auckland by the express today. Last night he met the executive of the local Reform League.

The secretary of the A.A.A. (Air G. Hutchinson) and the service officer (Mr E. Chamtaloup), together with several members of the Council, will visit AVhangarei shortly to attend the annual meeting of the Whangarei branch of the association.

Among the guests at the Settlors’ Hotel are Air and Airs J. Eouden, Dunedin; Air and Airs G. Anyon, AVellington; Alcssrs J. Richards, and E. C. Pollock, Hamilton; and Airs and Aliss Watkins and Alcssrs A. W. Horspool, -I. Garner and H. H. Barclay, all of Auckland.

Air Charles Bmedl y, who iu prewar days took an active part in local amateur theatricals, arrived in Whangarei this afternoon. His services as producer have been secured by the Whangarei Dramatic Society for their presentation of “Nothing but the Truth,’’ which will be staged early next month.
