(From Our Own Correspondent.)

The usual meeting of the Town Board was held in the hoard’s office on Monday night, Or. Guerin presiding over Crs W. Pole, A. Enneiman and C. Sanders. Leave of absence was granted to Cr F. T. Goodhue.

The Minister of Internal Affairs advised the board that the town area, from Ist April, is no longer part of the Bay of Island County Council.

Consequent on the increased status of the board, notices of motion ©were given to alter several by-laws, and application is to be made to the Minister of Health for the town district to bo represented on the Hospital Board.

It was resolved to re-instal the lights in Broadway, and purchase glass hoods to protect the lamps. Accounts for £3O •were passed for payment. Aj(plications were made for several crossings to bo installed.

REFEREES ’ ASSOCIATION.

The annual general meeting of the Bay of Islands Rugby Referees’ Association took place on Monday evening, 4th April, in Mr L. J, Smith’s office, Kaikohc. The attendance of members was very sparse, owing to the very inclement weather. Apology for absence was received from Mr Patience.

Air Ingram was voted to the chair. The minutes of the last annual general meeting were read and confirmed.

The inward and outward correspondence was read, and the secretary’s action in dealing with same was approved. The report and balance sheet was read as follows;—

I have much pleasure in presenting our third annual report and balance sheet, the latter showing a credit balance of 11/1. During the past season five new members were enrolled, whilst seven left the district and three resigned, the season ending with a membership of 12.

j With the advent of the new members, your Selection Committee were; able to appoint referees for all matches played under the authority of the Bay of Islands Rugby Union, These fix- j tures included the usual senior and | junior competitions, also the .Tcrkovieh; Cup and Inter-Union fixtures. j The relations existing between our ] association and the Bay Rugby Union | have been most cordial and harmoni- j ous, the union sparing no effort to j assist us in every possible way. < ! Owing to the lengthy distances mem- , bors live away from headquarters, it , is impossible to assemble ,qt fixed periods. as per rules, for instructional [ purposes in the interpretation of the Jrulcs and latest rulings thereto. To | j remedy this disability, all members j are circularised and advised of fresh j rulings and decisions when received [from the N.A. Rugby Referees’ Associ-; lation, thus keeping rulings ,as uniform las possible throughout the district, j contributing in no small measure to ! the betterment of the game for play--1 crs and supporters of Rugby. I At the icquest of the Bay Union [ Executive to minimise travelling exI ponses of referees to fixtures, it was j where possible, to appoint j referees residing in the locality where ! the fixture was played. The scheme gave general satisfaction to all players, the only criticism being heard from supporters of some visiting teams.

The report and balance slieot were adopted on tie motion of Mr Smith, seconded by Mr Ingram.

The following officers were elected for the incoming season: President, Mr D. P. Ingram (Ivaikohc); vice-presi-dent, Mr A. A. Anderson (Okaihau); secretary and treasurer, Mr W. J. Worthington (Kaikohe); executive committee, Messrs D. P. Ingram, A. A. Anderson, W. .1. Worthington (exofficio), and Messrs L. J. Smith (Kaikohe), J. Clarke (Opua), and P. Sommervillc (Moerewa); selection committee, "Union nominee with secretary and one other member of committee convenient for consultation; delegate to Bay of Islands Rugby Union, Mr W. .1. Wovtlibigton; delegate to Xorth Auckland Referees ’ Association, Air AY. J. AVorthington. CWhangarei resident delegate was left for delegate to appoint).

{ A vote of thanks to Wr Pmith for {his office, and to tho chair, closed (ho I business.
