The Southland races opened today. The weather was fine in the morning, but rain commenced at noon. The course is good. Results;—
Ro.siyn Hack Handicap, of 150 sovs; ;d\ furlongs. -(S) Frivol 8.9, 1; (7) Takakn 7.10, 2; (3) Soldiers’ Hope, 0.0, 3. All started. Time —1.18 4-5.
Wsvcrlov Saddle Trot, of 210 sovs; one iiulle and a half.— (9) Spring Chimes, SUtyda, 1; (14) Lingfield, 108 yds, (-(\ M iss Adonis, 36yds, 3. Lady Freeman was scratched. Won by half a Icnglh. I bird horse a head further a wav. Thun 41.36 2-5.
Flying Handicap, of 250 sovs; six furlongs, (of Kaloa Bells, 7.4, 1; 12) Kocoipl. 5.9, 2; (3) Rob, 7.0, 3. Comic Cong and Mime were scratched. Won by a long'lh and a quarter. Time --■1.16 2-!*.
